The government was rapped by Supreme Court on keeping judicial appointments pending for as long as nine months. On the first working day, the Centre cleared appointment of 10 judges for the high courts of Gauhati and Delhi and sent the names to President Pranab Mukherjee.

The central government is also considering recommendations for other 35 judges in Allahabad High Court. The 5 appointments for Delhi High Court are from judicial service while other 5 appointments for Gauhati High Court are both from the bar and the state judicial service.

A 3-judge bench lead by Chief Justice of India, T S Thakur, on Friday had accused the central government of trying to decimate the judiciary by holding back appointments.
