There were rumors that alliance between New Delhi and Moscow is weakening. However, the latest news about the agreements and deals between both the nations maybe a good news for those who were concerned about the relations between India and Russia. Russia has been India’s all weather friend. The India-Russia annual summit is about to take place on the sidelines of the BRICS summit. India and Russia are going to ink almost 18 important deals during this visit of Russian President Vladmir Putin. India may also insist on strong condemnation of international terrorism or cross-border terrorism at the Brics summit.
Strengthening Relations with Russia was extremely important for India after the decision taken by Russia to participate in a joint military exercise with Pakistan days after the Uri attack. New Delhi had issues with this joint military exercise and communicated its concerns to Moscow. There is an opportunity for India to focus on strengthening relations with Russia during BRICS summit.
Russian President Vladmir Putin had said in an interview to a news agency that Russia remained in the lead in terms of both direct supplies of most advanced weapons and military equipment and conducting joint exercises with India.
Vladmir Putin had said ‘Our countries actively collaborate in the military technical field,’ as he described India as Russia’s especially privileged strategic partner.
Defence and nuclear cooperation will be among the highlights of this India-Russia annual summit. Russian President Vladmir Putin is also likely to inaugurate the third and fourth units of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant.
